Richard is a CPA, Personal Financial Specialist and founder of Mitchen Wealth Management.
As a CPA, Richard quickly realized that tax management and financial planning go hand in hand as he saw firsthand how his client’s investment and wealth management decisions affect the taxes they pay. He founded Mitchen Wealth Management over 40 years ago to provide individuals and businesses with comprehensive and customized financial solutions with tax planning as a foundation.
Richard’s specializations include retirement planning, estate planning, education planning, tax planning, and insurance planning (including life, health, disability, and long-term care). He also conducts independent insurance business through his affiliation with major national insurance companies. At the core of his financial advice is the personal relationship he builds with each client. He believes the best approach to financial planning is a personal one.
He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and obtained his CPA certification in 1977. After graduation, he worked for Price Waterhouse as an auditor gaining expertise in accounting and tax. Richard is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants.
A native of Baton Rouge, Richard served in the United States Coast Guard for 18 years, including the reserve program. As a chief petty officer in the Coast Guard, Richard refined his leadership and sharpened his communication skills. Additionally, he maintains membership in the American Legion.
Richard enjoys playing golf, traveling, and visiting historical museums. When Richard is not working, he volunteers his time for Camp Smiling Acres, Inc., where he serves as a trustee on their board. He also enjoys spending time with his family. Richard and his wife Melanie of 45 years have four children and nine grandchildren. The family vacations together annually making for some unique experiences and fond memories.
