Our history

Richard Mitchen, CPA, and founder of Mitchen Wealth Management, started our business in 1981, originally named Richard E. Mitchen, CPA. Initially focused on taxes, Richard quickly decided to begin offering investment management services to his clients to help them beyond their taxes and create a strong and stable financial future for themselves and their families. As a CPA, Richard realized that tax management and investment management go together as he saw firsthand how his client’s investment decisions affect the taxes they pay.

  • In 2009, Richard Mitchen was joined in his practice by son Eric Mitchen, CFP®. As a CFP® professional, Eric expanded the business’ services to include comprehensive financial planning services.
  • In 2018, we became Mitchen Wealth Management, a name that better reflected our purpose of providing comprehensive financial solutions.
  • Since 1981, Richard, Eric, and our team have worked diligently to support clients, their families and local Baton Rouge businesses with comprehensive financial planning. Richard and Eric are committed to serving the Baton Rouge community for the next generation.

Puzzle solvers at heart

When you tour our office, you can’t miss our 32,000-piece puzzle of the New York City skyline that covers our conference room wall. This impressive puzzle landscape took Richard and Eric more than two years to complete and showcases their love of puzzles and working through tough circumstances to find the solution.
